Working for Our Mission
Abriendo Mentes achieves the organization's mission through three main initiatives - Enhance.Educate.Empower.
Enhance:
We work together with communities to enhance educational awareness and access to resources by forming communal creative learning centers. We utilize community centers to provide a safe and constructive environment for village members to come together and learn. We encourage all community members to take advantage of free open access to books, educational materials and arts and crafts.
Educate:
We offer community-specific experiential learning programs which emphasize English language instruction. Our lessons focus on complementing the school curriculum or specific occupational needs. We incorporate critical thinking, literacy building, and creativity into all of our lessons to create a well-rounded educational program. Our goal in class is to offer fun and stimulating instruction which meets the specific needs of each individual student.
Empower:
Enhanced education leads to knowledge, and knowledge leads to empowerment. We achieve this aspect with open access to new tools, resources, awareness and knowledge. Community members in rural Costa Rica are then able to develop new skills, leverage their current attributes and become self empowered to overcome the challenges of rural life. When working together, we can create an environment where all community members will be capable of independently prospering in education and achieving economic stability.
