Women's Empowerment Program
Women are a vital part of the Potrero community, but are often marginalized and discriminated against. Key women in the community approached AM about the creation of a women’s program and in response, Mujeres Activas de Potrero (MAP), meaning Active Women of Potrero, was created to address their needs. The goal of MAP is to empower women to tackle difficult issues in their lives and provide them with valuable tools to address them, as well as offer a social outlet for women to create a community amongst themselves.
Mujeres Activas de Potrero (MAP)
- Thirteen women are involved with MAP and meet twice a week under the organization of the Women's Empowerment Coordinator
- The women agree upon with which activities they want to be involved
These activities include:
- Sewing and selling handcrafted bags
- Health Screenings
- Nutrition Classes
- Art Classes
- Yoga Classes
- Group Discussions
- Seminars
- Group Outings
Impact of Mujeres Activas de Potrero
Engaging in the women’s group empowers women to take charge of their lives and overcome issues of oppression within their relationships and in Potrero. Our program aims to provide self-esteem building and consciousness-raising activities to empower women to create real change in their own lives and in their community.
